GAINESVILLE - [watch] Hall County Library is hosting Sitting Up With the Dead on Friday, August 13. The event is designed for folks seeking to learn more about their family history.
This is the seventh or eighth event like this the library has hosted. Ronda Sanders from the library says that things can get pretty exciting when genealogists can fill in blanks on their family lines.
She says, "They do tend to scream a little bit when they find something, and we can encourage that. If we don't have one good squeal during the night, then we haven't had a successful event."
Julie Wingate is a regular attendee at the Sitting Up With the Dead events. She's brings her five year old daughter Ellie who helps her research. Wingate says, "We have a good time together. It's fun. It's like a big puzzle and everybody is so helpful and trying to help each other."
The library will be closed to the public at 5 on August 13, and the upstairs Genealogy department will be open until midnight. The event costs $12 per person and includes a boxed dinner, snack, and coffee, and the chance to stay at the library researching in the Genealogy department until midnight. To register, call the Hall County Library at 770-532-3311 extension 116.
