GAINESVILLE - [watch] The last two seasons, the Chestatee War Eagles have leaned heavily on senior stars. In 2008, it was linebacker Chase Vasser and last season it was running back Ben Souther. Both players were All-Region and earned Division One scholarships. This year, coach Stan Luttrell has a senior that will carry his team in quarterback Scott Chewning, but he says that the 2010 edition of the War Eagles is his youngest by far.
With two-thirds of his team only sophomores or younger, Luttrell says that how this team does this year will be based on how quickly they can grow up.
Working in their favor will be an extra week of preparation due to the early bye week and also the fact that their all important sub-region games don't start until the beginning of October.
Although the War Eagles appear to be in the tougher of the two sub-regons in 8-AAA, the play-in game at the end of the season will give even more wiggle room forĀ the young team.
